IPR AUCC Chapter holds its first edition of #ThePRseries event

The Institute of Public Relations, African University College of Communications (AUCC) Chapter held its first PR event dubbed “The PR Series”.

Themed “Development Through Effective Public Relations”, the series engaged PR students and practitioners in a seminar held at the AUCC auditorium.

The event started off with a welcome address by the chapter’s Patron Mr Augustine Ammisare and also some few words from the President of the University, Dr. Anim-Wright.

Mr Henry Nii Dottey, Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana spoke on how companies in recent times have shifted from full reliance of traditional PR to modern strategies using digital PR, social and community/local influencers and events in order to extend development to communities within which they operate or to their stakeholders and encouraged students to be embrace the

Ms Faith Senam Ocloo, shared her journey as an alumna of AUCC and how she was able to identify niche area in PR as a Fashion PR Girl and admonished students to make use of social media as a key tool to promoting and communicating the various development projects they may undertake.

Mr. Chris Worla Essikpe, who was the main speaker at the event, shared some great insights on how PR has evolved over the years and encouraged students on how to be on top of their game especially using social media. He said “Technology has shifted the focus of tradition to modern tools, especially digital and social platforms”. Adding that students should make use of these platforms to create an identity in order to individually develop and also develop the nation as a whole.

Mr. Michael Bruce, from Tigo Ghana Corporate Communications Department and a former student also advised students to be proactive both on campus and online by improving their writing skills through internships secured while in school.

As part of “The PR Series, students also took a field trip to Tigo Ghana Corporate Communications Department.
