Women in PR Ghana Seminar 2017

The maiden edition of Women in Public Relations held recently at the World Trade Center gathered many young professionals within the PR and Communications industry.

The event which happened to be the first of its kind in Ghana saw both men and women professionals within the communications discipline including Public Relations, Media, Marketing and Advertising gather to share lessons and knowledge acquired to inspire many others.

Speaking on the theme “Empowering Today’s PR Woman” Madam Elaine Sam President of Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana, advised young women PR professionals to contribute to the bottom line by adding value to their roles in organizations. She encouraged attendees to support each other saying “Help yourself, hold hands to get to the top. The top is not for the faint-hearted, it is for those who strive to get there and you must get there”

Speakers at the seminar included Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright, President of AUCC who spoke on “Starting a Career in PR and Surviving in it”, Gifty Bingley, Head of Corporate Affairs, Tigo Ghana spoke on “Transitioning from any career into PR” and Cynthia Ofori Dwumfuo also spoke on “Making digital work for Today’s PR Woman”.

There was a Panel discussion moderated by Akosua Ogyiri Kwafo, a communications professional with Stratcomm Africa with Panelists including Sustainability and Community Affairs Manager at Voltic Ghana; Joyce Ahiadorme, the Head of PR Department, Ghana Institute of Journalism, Paulina Kuranchie; Head of Public Relations, Trust Hospital Afia Drah, and Fati Shaibu, News Editor, e.TV Ghana. These women discussed a number of issues on Women and PR practice and how PR Professionals can better work and build strong relations with the media. They also encouraged women in PR to know their worth and strive at dding value themselves by learning constantly.

Women in PR Ghana Seminar was organized by the E’April Public Relations in partnership with the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana and supported by Africa University College of Communications, Webster University Ghana Campus, Dark and Lovely (L’Oreal Ghana) and Voltic Mineral Water.
